The biggest reasons are that you don’t
have to remove your front wheel to load your bikes, there are no holes
to drill, and that your bikes are fastened to the side of the truck
bed saving a lot of space. Because it is so quick and easy to load
and unload your bikes, you’ll be on the trail while others are
still unloading and attaching their front wheels to bikes! Plus, Rec-Rac
can quickly be converted to a versatile truck tie-down system to haul
other cargo. |

Yes. A cable lock (see
Accessories) can be threaded through clamps, bicycle frame and
wheels. The clamps themselves can be locked to the truck with a padlock
or by securing the cable lock to the clamps after removing your bike. |

Sure! Order a set of our Add-A-Bike Separators
(see Accessories) and you will be able
to carry an additional bike. These separators secure the bikes at
two points of the frame to prevent the bikes from banging into each
other. Your bikes will take up a minimum of bed space leaving room
for additional gear. |

Some bed liners do present problems.
If your pickup has a bed liner, ideally the bed liner should fit under
the bed rail so the clamps can be fastened securely. We do not recommend
using Rec-Rac on “over the rail” bed liners (see
Quick Fit Guide). This is because you will need to cut a large
hole in the bed liner to expose the truck bed rail so the clamp can
be fastened correctly.
Trucks with factory-installed edge caps (rail caps) should work fine. |

We offer several other accessories that maximize
the versatility and add to the uses for your Rec-Rac. See
our Accessories page for more information and ideas on how to
fully utilize the features of Rec-Rac. |

My family and I do lots of biking in and around
the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. When I had to disassemble and load
four bikes then unload and assemble again, it seems we didn’t
have much time left to ride. Then we had to do it all over again when
we returned home! I knew there must be a better way. |

As with any bike rack system, there
are a few trucks that they won’t work on. (See our Quick
Fit Guide for more details). In short, the truck bed must have
an exposed bed rail for the clamps to attach to. Many trucks with
enclosed bed rails are not suitable for Rec-Rac. Pickups with unusually
large wheel humps will require the optional longer 8” Work/Sport
Adapters. See Accessories for more
information. Many trucks with enclosed bed rails are not suitable
for Rec-Rac. |

Some straps were installed incorrectly
at the factory. Refer to the illustration below for the correct direction
of the locking tab. If your strap was installed incorrectly, simply
pull out, turn over and reinsert. |
